Finally we reached the main attraction of our trip.
Located 400 kilometers from ChengDu in Sichuan,
JiuZhaiGou Valley is the most amazing park in China. JiuZhaiGou is a huge nature
reserve covering approximately 60,000 hectares. Ancient Chinese legend has it
that the goddess Semo accidentally smashed her mirror here and the pieces which
fell down the mountain formed beautiful lakes, streams and waterfalls. Despite
thousands of tourists, JiuZhaiGou remains a surprisingly clean and traditional
place. Official rules for environmental protection are strictly
enforced. The small villages here are inhabited by Tibetan and Qiang
people who conduct their lives in a very traditional manner. The scenery here is
spectacular. Colorful lakes, waterfalls, cascades and breathtaking
JiuZhaiGou was one of the first scenic areas under
special state protection in 1982 and was admitted to the UN's World Heritage
Site List in 1992.
